Chic Wedding with a Touch of Hello Kitty! | Cristina + Relsan

Hello Kitty and Guns N’ Roses were an important part of Cristina and Relsan’s wedding day! Cristina is a huge Hello Kitty fan, and her sweet groom proposed with a ring featuring her favorite character.  Meanwhile, Cristina’s wedding day look—sleek, timeless, and a touch of old world Hollywood—was far from Sanrio’s (the creator of Hello Kitty) style. Case in point: Cristina’s Angelina gown, lace-edged veil by Laura Jayne Bridal, and starlet hair!

Where does GNR come in? Well, that’s how this sensational couple closed out their wedding day—on the dance floor to one of the band’s most iconic songs.

From Cristina:

How did your sweetie propose?

“We went out for a nice dinner to the same restaurant at which we had our 1 year anniversary. Afterwards we were walking back to the car and I was complaining it was cold. ( It was minus 15 outside!!) I noticed him bending down fidgeting with his ankle and said “what are you doing lets go it’s freezing outside!!” (I’m such a romantic I know).. To which he replied “I’m doing it so just shut up and let me do it!” and popped the question with a Hello Kitty ring! (I am a huge hello kitty fanatic, and he knew I wanted to choose my engagement ring together. His friends were hiding in the bushes and surprised us. We then all went out for drinks to celebrate. The best part is before we went out that night I told my friend “I think he will propose.” I am so difficult to surprise. Throughout the dinner I completely forgot I said that so I was actually really surprised when he popped the question.”

How did you choose your gown?

“My cousin had gotten her gown and veil at Ma Chérie Bleue and loved the experience, so I knew I wanted to go there. It was the first store and gown I tried on—actually my aunt pointed it out. I had a vision of what I wanted my dress to look like, I knew I wanted something classy, elegant and somewhat sexy. When I tried on the Angelina dress I absolutely fell in love. It just fit so perfectly! As beautiful as the front of the dress is it was the back of the dress that won me over. I loved the low back, the lace, the buttons, the material.. Everything about it! I tried on 3 more dresses just to say I tried more dresses on but knew that that was the dress I wanted.”

Tell us about your day! Did you have a theme or style in mind?

“We chose the end of September because we figured it wouldn’t be so hot out and it turned out to be record breaking hot! 40 degrees with humidex! I can’t complain because the sun was shining so perfectly. The day flew by but to me it was perfect.”

What was your favorite wedding day moment?

“I would have to say it was at the end of the party, I had asked that the last song that played be Guns n Roses ‘Paradise City’. Relsan and I just came together we kissed and danced and ended the party of the perfect note with some of our closest friends around.”

What was your first dance song?

“Lauryn Hill’s ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We were supposed to go to St. Maarten right after our wedding but the trip was cancelled due to the devastating Hurricane Irma that hit. So we ended up only going away in January to Antigua. The beach was STUNNING. We had a wonderful time and are excited to travel some more in the future.”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Don’t sweat the small stuff, mistakes happen, enjoy the day because it flies by!”
