If you’re a “fall wedding in New England” kind of girl (or even if the notion makes you sigh and dreamily look out the window), this one’s for you!
Married in Maine just as autumn was beginning to paint leaves in fiery hues, Susannah and Matthew’s celebration had all the cozy, rustic and wonderful elements – hot cider, a beautiful venue (The Barn on Walnut Hill), pashmina wraps…and Cuban music! That’s right. Because, girls, nothing will warm you up like a mambo.

On finding the dress:
“I visited several bridal shops without luck before I went to see Malinda at Your Dream Bridal, Sudbury, MA. Malinda, the owner, was hosting a Lea-Ann Belter trunk show so I was able to try on several styles from the designer. I was drawn to different parts of different dresses, but there wasn’t one style that seemed just right for me. Malinda was a great listener and helped me figure out what I loved about each dress, like the illusion lace neckline of the Hazel dress and the heavier feel of the Charlotte skirt with its gorgeous scalloped lace hem – and suggested that we combine the two! The designer said they could make it work – thank you Lea-Ann Belter for creating my unique wedding gown!”
On the wedding day:
“We both love New England in the fall and were excited to have our wedding in October. We knew it could be risky with the weather, but we hoped to have our ceremony outdoors in the woodland sanctuary next to our barn venue. I watched the weather forecasts all week and was so happy to see the “chance of rain” transform at the last moment into a beautiful, if a bit chilly, afternoon. Our friends and family wrapped up in blankets and drank hot cider while my aunt welcomed us into the grove with music from her harp. Each guest was given a small bell (we had collected unique brass and antique bells and had a few special family bells, as well), and at the end of our ceremony we walked back down the aisle to a great ringing of bells.
Our reception was in a beautiful restored post and beam barn with lots of rough charm and character. Our caterer and the floral design crew from a nearby farm did an amazing job creating elegant botanical tablescapes – the barn felt like a truly magical space to celebrate with family and friends. We danced the night away to a local band playing traditional Cuban music!”
