Winter got you down? Well, girl, we have just the antidote to your case of cold-weather blahs – a sun-drenched, stunning destination wedding in Santorini. The blues are bluer and the whites are whiter there, you know, and the skies are endless beauty.
Annie and David stole off to that remarkable place to exchange vows and celebrate in a manner that spoke to their shared sensibilities and dreams.
“David is a (totally brilliant) travel author and photographer. (There’s a good chance he loves travel more than me, so let’s remember never to ask him to choose.) He’s committed to living his purpose by continuously seeking out new experiences, and inspiring others to do the same.
I’m a Simplified Living Expert, and the owner of the professional organizing company Live Simply by Annie. Through my work, I help others to gain clarity about themselves and their priorities, to eliminate the extraneous elements from their lives, and to create beautifully organized spaces that support their wellbeing.
An authentic wedding that honored who we both are had to combine those two elements—adventure and simplicity. Absolutely nothing felt so fitting as a private ceremony in stunning Santorini, Greece.
I’m fairly tepid about convention—so much of my work, after all, is aimed at illuminating to people why “that’s the way it’s always been” is far from sufficient reasoning.
Considering my unapologetic preference for originality and authenticity over tradition, for a while there I thought I wouldn’t wear a legitimate “wedding dress.”
But the more pages of unremarkable white dresses I scrolled through, the more I began to realize that while those dresses were pretty, they ultimately didn’t feel quite special enough for the day in question—even for me, a girl who seemingly missed out on the bridal gene.
I can’t recall how I stumbled on Lea-Ann’s lines, but I was immediately drawn to their simultaneous beauty and simplicity. Too frou frou wouldn’t do, but a hint of lace on top for an injection of ladylike elegance? Yes, please. And a full skirt, whose drama was presented with such clean lines? Sign me up. Naturally, it was the practically of the pockets (organizer here, remember?) that sealed the deal.
Wearing that gown atop a private balcony overlooking the Caldera, I felt beautiful, sexy (have you seen the back?), and completely empowered.
Because in the end, of course, it isn’t about what others have chosen in the past that matters, but what you choose for yourself now, without worry as to what boxes that may mean others put you in.
And you know? Tromping around the entirety of the magical island of Santorini with my love and our photographer, receiving well wishes from passersby, my dress, itself, a testament to the day’s remarkableness and un-duplicability, I was boundlessly happy to wear the title of “bride.” “
