Dreamy SoCal Wedding at the L’Auberge Del Mar | Ariel + Julius

Hope you’re sitting down, because this SoCal wedding day at L’Auberge Del Mar is guaranteed to make you swoon. We don’t just mean Ariel and Julius’s sensational pictures, but the whole vibe of their story will give you the goosies. As our so-in-love bride put it, “We planned our wedding in four months, mostly because we couldn’t wait to marry each other.”

Feeling all the romantic feels yet? It gets better! Just wait until you see their photos and read this sweet couple’s story below.

How did Julius propose?

“This is my favorite story to tell but I’ll try to keep it short. Julius and I dated for 6 years before we got engaged and we had started taking little vacations once a year to different cities that we had never been to. Chicago was next on the list. What I didn’t know is that Julius was planning on proposing there.

He found a photographer out there and set up a whole plan on the day we arrived. He and the photographer mapped out everything from discreetly following a guy so he could lead us to the bridge; to the photographer telling Julius to stay on my right side so she could get the perfect shot. We started with an early dinner at Girl and the Goat, which he had to make reservations for months in advance. He told me that we had to have a fairly quick dinner so we could head over to the park to “beat all the tourists.” Finally we started to walk along Nichols Bridge, overlooking the city of Chicago on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. He started to slow his pace and stopped me in the middle of the bridge. He quoted my favorite TV show Grey’s Anatomy with lines like “ I believe we can be extraordinary together rather than ordinary apart.” He designed the most perfect ring and the pictures came out beautiful. Everything was perfect but it was special because Julius planed the whole thing and it was tailored so perfectly to us. It was a humbling experience for me.“

How did you choose your gown?

“I honestly would’ve been happy pulling a Carrie Bradshaw and getting married at the courthouse and in chic jumpsuit. When we decided to plan a wedding, I didn’t really know what kind of dress I wanted. I love fashion and my husband and I are known to have a certain sense of style among our friends so I felt a little pressure to find the perfect dress for me. I went with my mom to Love and Lace Bridal and we found one that day! I tried on the dress two or three times that day. The fact that it had pockets and a low back was such a huge selling point for me. I felt amazing in it the day of. I’m grateful my mom was there to help me make that decision. I get my fashion sense from her.“

Tell us about your day! Did you have a theme or style in mind?

“Our vibe for the wedding was simple and timeless. We planned our wedding in four months, mostly because we couldn’t wait to marry each other. Our colors were black and white with hints of green from the succulents. Our theme was community because we felt that in our six years of being together, we were grateful for our family and friends who supported us along the way. We have always done things our own way and we definitely designed our wedding that way, too. For example, my grandmother married us, and our dear friend made our cake. Although I never imagined a wedding, it was exactly what we wanted.“

What is your funniest wedding day memory?

“The funniest memory for me was seeing all the groomsmen fawn over Julius’s wedding ring. I am so glad we captured it because it was so sweet to see them so excited! Julius was the first of his groomsmen to be married. Side note: Julius has his dad’s original wedding band and I have my mom’s original wedding band. They are both the same carat gold as my engagement ring. It was meant to be!”

Five words that best describe Julius:

“Kind hearted, hilarious, supportive, intelligent, perfect for me.”

Do you have any advice for future soon-to-be wed couples?

“Leave room for spontaneity. The best pictures and moments are the candid ones. If you over-plan or try to make every minute an action item, you don’t leave much room to be in the moment and feel the love surrounding you.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We are planning to go to Italy and Barcelona this fall!”
