How did Matt propose?
“For Christmas, my present was a trip to Disney World for New Year’s Eve. When we arrived to our room, it was decorated with flowers and candles and he proposed. After, we went out to dinner and came back to our room to watch the fireworks show that is put on every NYE. We spent New Year’s Day at the park with a VIP experience, which meant we had a guide to take us around and cut the lines. We were able to do everything we wanted and see 3 parks in just one day! It was truly a magical trip!”
How did you choose your gown?
“I actually only went to one gown shop! My mom and future mother-in-law came with me. I agreed to try on a variety of styles, but I always had my heart set on a mermaid style. So many people had told me that I would pick something different when it came down to it, but I actually did end up with what I had always envisioned. I tried on a few dresses that were picked for me and was not loving any of them, so I look a stroll around the shop myself. As soon as I saw my dress on the rack, I pretty much knew it was the one. I tried it on and loved it! Totally had that “this is the one moment.” We bought the dress that night!”
Tell us about your day!
“We wanted the day to be elegant, formal, classic, and FUN! We went with a white and silver theme for the grande ballroom with small navy accents and navy bridesmaid dresses. I loved our flowers and table linen. The best part about the day was our band – they did an amazing job of keeping everyone dancing all night and the dance floor was always full!”
What’s your funniest wedding day memory?
“My dad’s speech was hilarious! Before the day, he wouldn’t let anyone read it, so we started to get scared. But he did an amazing job and had the whole room laughing.
My other favorite moment was when we did the U of M fight song and brought all of the alumni in the room up on stage. My husband and I met at U of M so it was a special moment and tribute for us.”
Do you have any advice for future brides and grooms?
“If you don’t have a wedding coordinator, at least get a day of coordinator. I was able to plan everything by myself, but when it came to the day of I wanted to be able to enjoy my morning getting my hair and makeup done with my bridesmaids, instead of stressing about set up. It was so nice to know there was someone designated to solely be my advocate, who could come to me if there was a problem/question. It was also super helpful to have someone to give extra directions to for tasks that maybe my venue would not handle and to coordinate between vendors.”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Africa for our honeymoon. We wanted a trip with some adventure, but that also could be romantic. It was the best time of our lives. First, we went to Zambia and saw Victoria Falls. We then went on safari in the Sabi Sands in South Africa. We finished our amazing vacation on Benguerra Island, off Mozambique, enjoying the beach, deep sea fishing, island hopping, and relaxing. We both would highly recommend a trip to Africa!”
