On the southwestern coast of India between the Arabian Sea and the towering Western Ghats lays Kerala, a place where even the name is beautiful!
So, when lovely Nitu sent us pictures from her and Albin’s destination wedding at the Zuri Resorts in Kumarakom,we were instantly transported from Toronto’s winter to a place where tropical flowers and palm trees grow.
Nitu’s search for her wedding dress began somewhere else entirely…in Knoxville, Tennessee, to be exact! Thanks to her mom (who designed all the Indian outfits including the wedding party’s sarees), Nitu has a love for beautiful silk, which played a big part in finding a dress that captured her heart.
“Growing up I knew I always wanted to wear a wedding gown for my big day. When I found Lea-Ann Belter dresses at the Wedding Wonderland store in Knoxville, TN, I fell in love with the French Alencon lace and pure silk fabric. After trying on several of her dresses, I finally fell in love with the Meryl dress. I didn’t want the traditional white dress so I chose the Meryl in Blush with ivory lace (looked great with my darker skin tone). Since we were having a wedding in Kerala and needed to be conservative (no strapless or sleeveless), this dress was perfect. To add to it, it had a dramatic two keyhole back which made it different from all the other gowns. I paired the dress with a custom-made bridal belt (from Etsy) and used my sister’s cathedral veil (as my something old). Since our wedding colors were cream, gold and jade, we made custom outfits for the bridesmaids in jade!
We had our wedding at the Zuri Resorts in Kumarakom, Kerala, which was a gorgeous venue with the waters of Kerala in the background. We had the ceremony and the reception outdoors in 99 degree weather on December 28, 2013! It was really hot that day but we managed to look like we weren’t melting.
At the end of our chaotic and special day with family and friends, our bridal party along with our families decided to take a boat ride just to unwind, see the natural beauty of Kerala and squeeze in some pictures.”
Best wishes, you two, and thank you so much for sharing your spectacular day with us!
