If you’ve ever been to Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, you know it’s a romantic, beautiful place no matter the time of day. There are winding, cobblestone streets, beautiful sea views, and color everywhere you look. Cody and Liz’s proposal unfolded in that lovely place and hints of San Juan’s old world elegance glittered within their upstate New York wedding day, starting with Liz, who walked down the aisle in a sheer lace Lea-Ann Belter Mackenzie bolero and Rosemary gown!
More about Liz and her sweetie’s celebration at the Country Club of Buffalo from our stunning bride below:
How did your sweetie propose?
“Cody (my husband), proposed when we were on vacation with his family in Puerto Rico! One night we went to Old San Juan and somehow Cody managed for the two of us to break away from the rest of his family. We walked up towards the water and he did it there.“
How did you choose your gown?
“I got my gown from Anne Gregory, a dress boutique in Pittsburgh. It was the third store that I went to. When I tried on the jacket/bolero, I knew immediately that I wanted to incorporate that into my dress. The gown I picked was the first one I tried on at the store, but of course I didn’t want to stop that quickly! I kept trying on different dresses and always adding the jacket to every one. Finally I realized, with the help of my mom and now sister-in-law, that nothing was going to compare to the first dress I had tried.”
Can you tell me a little about your day? Did you have a theme or style in mind?
“Our wedding was on October 8, 2016. We had a church wedding and the reception was at the Country Club of Buffalo in a big tent. We lucked out and had great weather. The tent was filled with a rustic/elegance vibe. We had farm tables mixed in, lots of mini floral arrangements, tons of candles, lanterns, and bistro lights hung from the top. My colors were very neutral. The bridesmaids wore two-piece grey and ivory dresses from BHLDN and the flowers were all ivory/cream with some greenery mixed in.”
What’s your funniest wedding day memory?
“My two older sisters speech.”
Describe your wedding day in 5 words or less:
“Best Day Ever.”
Three words that best describe your sweetie:
“Thoughtful, supportive, and funny.”
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
“No matter how many times people tell you that your wedding day is going to fly by, you won’t realize how fast it goes until the day is over. Enjoy every second.”
