Sunday Kind of Love Wedding at the Eglinton Grand | Lauren + David

“And my arms need someone
Someone to enfold
To keep me warm when Mondays and Tuesdays grow cold
Love for all my life to have and to hold
Oh and I want a Sunday kind of love” – Etta James

A Sunday kind of love is exactly what Lauren and David found, and it’s also the secret sauce in their romantic, old-Hollywood-inspired wedding day. Lauren told us that, as long as they’ve been together, “Sundays were our day.  It was the only day of the week that allowed us to explore the things we loved; comic books, vinyl records, movies, art galleries, exploring the city, science center, etc.  So our relationship theme became the song by Etta James “Sunday Kind of Love.” Once we got engaged, we didn’t hesitate. We wanted our wedding to have the same feeling that our Sundays had…”

These two merged the glamour and elegance of Tinseltown’s golden era with the warm glow and fun of their lazy Sundays spent together within the historic, Art Deco walls of the Eglinton Grand.

Lauren visited our Toronto bridal boutique to find her Stephanie gown (in which she looked ah-mazing), and we’re proud to say that seven years earlier, her sister found the gown with us, too!

Read on for many details about their day—including how she chose her dress—and some amazing advice from Lauren:

How did you choose your gown?

“When my sister was choosing her wedding dress 7 years ago, she had looked everywhere and couldn’t find the “perfect” dress.  My mother and I suggested she book an appointment at the Lea-Ann Belter flagship store in Toronto.  She found it! She fell in love!  Flash forward 7 years later, and it was my turn to find the “perfect” dress.  My mother insisted that we go back to Lea-Ann Belter because her designs were beautiful, unique, and fitted to the bride.  I was hesitant, but finally, I walked in to the store and Vanessa was the best consultant and I found my dress!”

Tell us about your day! Did you have a theme or style in mind?

“Throughout our entire relationship, Sundays were our day. We wanted our wedding to have the same feeling that our Sundays had and we wanted it to feel like Old Hollywood—glamorous, elegant, and classic.   We chose an old movie theatre turned into a venue, we wanted a 1970s Rolls Royce to chauffeur us around, we played our favourite vintage movie and show in the background (Singin’ in the Rain, I Love Lucy), our guestbook were vinyl records that our guests signed.  We wanted our wedding to be filled with the very things that made us us.”

What was your favorite wedding day moment?

“We chose to have our first dance alone.  All of our guests were on the mezzanine of our venue and we danced our first dance together on the dance floor with no one around, just us.  This was truly a memorable moment for both of us.  It allowed us the chance to have our first dance in an intimate way while still having our loved ones around us. But most importantly it really gave us a chance to slow down and just be with each other.  We will forever cherish those moments.”

Describe your wedding day in 5 words or less:

“Elegant, Classic, Fun, Intimate, Loving.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We wanted a place where we could relax, rest, enjoy good weather, enjoy the beach and the ocean, but also want to be able to explore the country.  With this criteria, we chose Curaçao and we can’t wait to go back!!”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Take some time in the day to be just you two together.  To give yourself a moment to look into each other’s eyes, fall in love, and reflect on the hard work, planning, and amazing day you’ve created together that will be the beginning of your life together.

For the brides especially, you can plan and plan all you want, but things will go wrong unfortunately on the day of.  However, do not let these mishaps consume your day! What will happen, will happen.  Enjoy the day! Laugh it off! As long as you and your bride/groom are enjoying yourself and having a good time, that is all that matters!”
