Classic Alabama Wedding | Maddie + Nic

Though Maddie and Nic’s relationship began several years ago at the beach, they had crossed paths before way back in kindergarten! After that sunny, seaside day in 2015, these two knew they were a match. After Nic surprised Maddie with a sweet sunset proposal, these two set about planning a delightful summer wedding in Alabama.

Maddie fell in love with two different Lea-Ann Belters when searching for her gown, so she combined the two to create her dream dress to which she added meaningful heirlooms—her mom’s pearled bridal headpiece and earrings, as well as the ring Maddie’s dad had given her mom after high school graduation!

From Maddie:

How did you guys meet?

“We actually grew up in the same small town and went to school together from kindergarten – 12th grade, but were acquaintances at best. After graduation I attended college at The University of Alabama and Nic went to The Citadel so we were both completely off each other’s radar until the summer of 2015! We randomly met up while both at the beach and from that first night we never looked back!”

How did your sweetie propose?

“We were on vacation with Nic’s family when he suggested just the two of us go to a nice dinner. At the time I thought it was odd that his family wouldn’t be coming with us, but they all insisted that we go alone. He took me to dinner at an amazing restaurant on the beach and at sunset took me up to their rooftop bar. After sweet words and a beautiful ring he turned me around to see his whole family and mine standing behind us!”

How did you choose your gown?

“My wedding dress was actually a mixture of the 1st and 2nd dresses I ever tried on! I loved the top of one and skirt of another and thank goodness Lea-Ann Belter was able to combine the two to make my perfect dress! I couldn’t have been more in love with my dress.”

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?

“My something old was my mother’s earrings that she wore on her wedding day. Something new was my garter that I was so in love with. Something borrowed was my mother’s pearled headpiece that was a part of her veil. And something blue was my mother’s ring that her father had given her after her high school graduation!”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We went to Italy for our honeymoon! We got to travel to Florence, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast. The history was amazing and the scenery was so beautiful!”
