Classic Southern Wedding in Selma | Katherine + Connor

See how lovely, joyful, and heartful Katherine and Connor’s wedding was? Know this—our bride Katherine was feeling all the anxious feels! Said Katherine, “As I anticipated our wedding day I often felt a mix of emotions. I thought I would cry. I thought I would be sooo nervous. I was unsure if everything would come together.” So, couples out there in the midst of planning, take heart! Your wedding too will come together and be everything (and more) you hope.

Wed and married at First Baptist Church of Selma, Katherine and Connor’s wedding was classic, southern, 100% them, and 100% perfect, especially the pre-ceremony blessing and their first dance—these two love cutting a rug and danced their hearts out that day!

From Katherine:

How did your sweetie propose?

“Connor and I grew up together in Selma, AL. We were in college at Auburn University at the time and I had been anticipating the proposal for a while. Connor’s main goal was to surprise me, so our plans were nothing out of the ordinary. We were on our way back to Selma for the weekend and he asked if we could make a quick stop at his grandparents’ house. There he had set up a cross that he built on a hill and lights that lined our walk. It was just the two of us and it all happened in a matter of seconds. I loved getting to see his thoughtfulness played out through the place he chose, the way he set everything up, and the ring he picked out himself. Later we met our families for a celebratory dinner!”

How did you choose your gown?

“I was such a hard bride to please. I can admit that because it even drove me crazy!! I had a vision for what I wanted, and it just took some time and help from some veryyyy patient parents to find the dress. Initially, I tried on a Lea-Ann Belter gown at the White Room in Birmingham, AL. I loved it and I really wanted the dress, but the color/material wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned. With some searching and assistance from the ladies at The White Room I found the Lillian gown and it was EXACTLY what I was trying to convey to everyone. I also got to custom design a veil to match the applique design of the dress and I loved every minute of that process.”

What was your favorite wedding day moment?

“As I anticipated our wedding day I often felt a mix of emotions. I thought I would cry. I thought I would be sooo nervous. I was unsure if everything would come together. Connor and I chose to begin our wedding ceremony with a moment of worship. Our wedding party and the whole church of people behind us sang “We Will Glory.”  In this moment I have never felt so much peace and joy wash over me. It was a perfect moment before we said our vows to reflect on how God had blessed our relationship and remember the true purpose behind why we were there. Connor and I both agree that this was our favorite part of our wedding day.”

What was your first dance song?

“”You Are The Best Thing” – Ray Lamontagne

Our first dance was one of the most looked-forward-to moments. Connor and I love to dance, and it was the first time we got to pick the band and the song. We loved every minute and I can’t watch videos without smiling ear to ear. Shout out to an up and coming band – The Brook and the Bluff. We are your biggest fans!“

Describe your wedding day in 5 words or less:

“Exceeded ALL expectations.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We spent the week staying in a cottage in Bluffton, SC. It was the best relaxing getaway. We had never visited the east coast, so we explored Hilton Head Beach for a day. My birthday was also that week and Connor treated me to a day in Savannah, GA. We walked around the city, ate some wonderful Mexican food, and ended up at a Sister Hazel concert that night. We will definitely be visiting Bluffton many more times to come.”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Marriage is a blessing. Keep that as your focus during the planning and enjoy getting to celebrate with friends and family along the way! You’ll treasure the memories not the details.”
