Dreamy, Classic Wedding at Sacred Oaks | Megan + Kolby

From their very first date, Megan knew Kolby was the person for her. Says our sweet bride, “We were always laughing, and it felt so natural from the very beginning!” Though they’d known each other through mutual friends since college (they even lived two houses down from one another senior year), those love sparks flew after graduation when they reconnected in Dallas.

Once engaged, Megan and Kolby planned a June wedding…which totally changed when Covid appeared on the scene. So, they postponed, pared down, and celebrated with their closest friends and family in September at the Sacred Oaks at Camp Lucy. There’s lots to love about their day (signature drinks named after their puppers, gorgeous florals, and an even more lovely bride), but in addition to their first dance to “My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw, they also had a private dance at the end of the night. Explains Megan, “We had a private dance at the end of the night to the song “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which was the song that was playing when we first said “I love you” on New Year’s Eve in Nashville.”

SO ROMANTIC!

Read on for Megan’s silver lining on planning a wedding in 2020, how she found her Lyra gown, and more about their day (you can also peep Megan’s bridal portraits here):

How did Kolby propose?

“He took me on a trip to Cabo and proposed on the beach our first night there!”

How did you choose your gown?

“I always imagined I would try on just a few gowns at one place and quickly find my dream dress, but that was not the case! I went to at least 10 different boutiques over several weeks and I found dresses I liked but nothing came close to being “the one”… I felt like I was being too picky! Then I found a photo of the Lyra gown on Pinterest and the Bridal Boutique in Lewisville ordered it for me to try on. The second I put it on, I knew it was the one!”

Tell us about your day!

“We wanted a soft, romantic, and elegant feel that was classy but not too stuffy. Our venue (Sacred Oaks at Camp Lucy) was absolutely perfect. It completely took my breath away the first time I toured it. Ambiance, food, and dancing were very important to us! Our main priority was that all of our guests had a great time!!”

One detail you couldn’t live without?

“We really wanted to incorporate our dogs in our wedding since they are everything to us and couldn’t be there. So, we had signature cocktails named after them (the Maddox Margarita and Mabel Mojito) and had a drink sign with their pictures. Beautiful florals and great food and drinks were also a must-have!”

Describe your wedding day in five words or fewer:

“Romantic, classic, elegant, and fun.”

What was the funniest moment of your day?

“There were a few small mishaps during the day that ended up being great memories! My bridesmaids wanted to pop open a bottle of champagne during our getting-ready photos, but it ended up popping open too early and the cork hit me in the face before the photographer was ready! We were all laughing so hard! I also accidentally placed my dad and father-in-law’s embroidered handkerchiefs in the wrong gift bags and put the ring on Kolby’s wrong hand during the ceremony… whoops!”

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue?

“Something old—our cake knife was from my grandparents’ wedding.
Something borrowed—my garter was borrowed from my mother.
Something blue—flowers and ribbon in the bouquets.”

Three words that best describe your partner:

“Kolby described me as beautiful, caring, and smart.
I describe Kolby as driven, funny, and generous.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We originally had planned to go to Greece and Mykonos (before we postponed our June 6th wedding due to Covid). We are hoping to go next year! However, we ended up booking a short trip to Playa Mujeres, Mexico last minute and it was perfect!”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Do not stress about everything being perfect! We spent over a year planning a “perfect wedding” for June 6th, and everything fell apart so quickly just a few months out due to Covid. Looking back, it was a blessing because it made us realize what’s most important about our wedding, which is our love for each other and being able to share our day with our closest friends and family. Enjoy every moment with the people who love you most! The day goes by SO quickly!!”
