Colorado Wedding at Wild Basin Lodge | Rebecca + Christian

There is so much awesome going on in Rebecca and Christian’s Colorado wedding day. But, first of all, you must know that they met at a roller rink (yes!) and got engaged in Colorado (Rebecca shares that adorable story below), so of course that’s where their wedding had to be, too. For that, they chose Wild Basin Lodge to set the scene—and with spectacular mountain backdrop, nature all around, and rustic lodge, it delivered one spectacular setting!

Then there were the personality-packed details, which included a First Scoop instead of cake cutting (you read right—an ice cream sundae bar instead of cake) and a first dance to “I See the Light” by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi from the movie Tangled. Then there was our bride, who rocked a stunning veil made by her MOH and a whimsical jacket with her Rosamund gown.

From Rebecca who mini-mooned in a log cabin and hiked three of the fourteeners with Christian while they wait for her next honeymoon-long holiday break from vet school:

How did your sweetie propose?

“He’s such a stinker! He asked me to take some time off from work for an undisclosed reason. I kept badgering him about it, but not a peep! Eventually he relented but only if I could guess what we were doing in a “hangman” or “wheel of fortune” style game. I was able to guess that we were going to Colorado to go skiing. One of the days we were out there, we got to the top of one of the lifts. He looked at me and said, “It’s really beautiful here. Let’s look at the sights.” I agreed, so we stood around looking over the mountains and greenery. “You know what would make this even better?” he asked me. He told me to close my eyes and hold out my hands where he put the open ring box. I opened my eyes and asked him if it was what I thought it was. He told me “Yes! Will you marry me?” and because I’m such a romantic person, I said “Of course I will, you idiot!”

How did you choose your gown?

“I knew right away that I wanted to try on dresses alone, at least the first time. My mom and I have very different styles, and though I value her input, we don’t always see eye to eye. I tried on many dresses of varying styles. I thought for sure I wanted a mermaid dress. My consultant and I picked out a few different styles, and then I saw the Rosamund hanging and was immediately drawn to the brocade. It wasn’t anything like what I had pictured wearing but I thought it was so beautiful. I tried on all of the other dresses and realized that a mermaid gown wasn’t flattering to my figure at all. Finally I tried on the Rosamund. I absolutely had a bridal moment with the waterworks and everything. Eventually I was able to take one of my bridesmaids and my mom with me to see the dress. It was way less stressful because I already knew what I wanted!”

Tell us about your day!

“My [now] husband and I knew we wanted to get married in Colorado since that’s where we got engaged. Planning wasn’t exactly easy since I was in school full time and he was working long hours, six days a week—and we didn’t live in Colorado. I knew immediately that I did NOT want to have a wedding cake for our wedding. We opted to have a “First Scoop” instead of a cake cutting ceremony. We had a custom ice cream scoop made with our names and the date of our wedding, and we had ice cream and full sundae bar catered from Boulder. It was really cute!”

Describe your wedding day in 5 words or fewer:

”Memorable, Romantic, Enchanting, and Entertaining.”

What was the funniest moment of your day?

“The bouquet toss! The ceilings were lower than I had anticipated and accidentally tossed it in such a way that it came right back to me—so I had to throw it again!”

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?

“Something old: the earrings I wore! They were simple diamonds, but my [now] husband bought them for me after a little over a year of dating. They are really precious to me.
Something new: Aside from the dress, the cathedral length veil that my maid of honor made for me!
Something borrowed: My mom’s gorgeous pearl necklace.
Something blue: My engagement ring—it has a beautiful sapphire in the middle.”

Three words that best describe your partner:

He is: hardworking, understanding, and patient.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“Unfortunately we haven’t gotten to go on our honeymoon yet. I don’t get a lot of time off in Veterinary School, but we are hoping to go someplace during the winter since I will have three weeks off! We did, however, take a mini-honeymoon for three days after the wedding! My husband booked a log cabin for us and we were able to hike up three of the 14ers!”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Don’t skimp on a photographer. Write your own vows. Also don’t forget that it’s YOUR day and not anybody else’s!”
