Destination Wedding in Thailand | Christina + Chuck

A great proposal story gets us every time, and Christina and Chuck’s moment is pretty magical…it happened under the surface of the glittering sea in Maya Riviera! After such an auspicious start, of course their wedding day was just as incredible. These two chose Thailand as the perfect spot to become husband and wife, and, yes, it was extra dreamy.

One of our amazing Toronto bridal boutique brides, Christina chose her blush Ingrid wedding dress on her very first visit! We’re so delighted to have her share a little about her incredible celebration:

How did your sweetie propose, and what made you decide to have a destination wedding in Thailand?

My husband, Chuck, proposed to me while we were scuba diving in Maya Riviera, Mexico. Because of our love of the outdoor and ocean, we had decided to have a destination beach wedding. We picked Phuket, Thailand because it’s famous for its beautiful beaches in southeast Asia. Both of our parents and close relatives live in Hong Kong. That makes Phuket an obvious destination for our perfect wedding.

Tell us about your day!

I started my day with a dip in the infinity pool in our villa and followed with a traditional Thai massage. Then my sister (who is a MUA in Toronto) helped me with my makeup and hair to get ready for the big day. There was a high chance of rain and it did pour down just 2 hours before our outdoor ceremony. We didn’t have a backup plan so we just hoped for the best. It was a rain or shine kind of situation. Luckily, rain stopped 30 min just before our ceremony and floor were all dried up. Just before our ceremony, we had some “door games” where the bridesmaids would give challenges for the groom and groomsmen before the groom can “get” the bride. And then we had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony to receive lucky money and blessing from our parents and aunties and uncles. After wedding ceremony, we had our cocktail and reception. The highlight of the night was to throw each other into the pool. Everyone was having fun inside the pool before dinner was officially over.

How did you choose your wedding gown?

I found out about Lea-Ann Belter while browsing some wedding ideas websites. I really love her modern luxurious styles with subtle lace details but not over the top. I felt that it really suits my personality. I was able to pick out the Ingrid gown on my first visit to the store (also my first wedding gown shopping ever!). The hint of blush hiding under the soft ivory chiffon makes it the perfect color.

What’s your advice for other couples planning their weddings?

Here is my advice for engaged couples who are thinking about destination wedding. Don’t stress yourself out by micro managing every little details. Since you are not physically there to see everything, it’s important to choose vendors with good portfolio so you can just pick from what they had done in the past and make minor changes to fit your your needs. Remember you are in a beautiful destination and nothing can go terribly wrong. Just some fresh flower maybe all you need. Lastly, have an opened mind on the day of your wedding especially if you are having an outdoor wedding. Things don’t always turn out the way you envisioned it and there is nothing much you could do at that point. Just keep smiling and enjoy every moment of your big day. “
