Destination Wedding at Tekik de Regil | Emily + Caton

Destination wedding dreamers, you’re going to want to put Mexico and our Magnolia gown on your list of maybes after having a peek at this! After becoming engaged in Dallas (a super sweet story you’ll read below), Emily and Caton planned the most magical celebration in Merida, Mexico. Their venue? Tekik de Regil, a space filled with sun-washed color, beautiful tiles, and gorgeous from pretty much every perspective—not unlike Emily in her Magnolia wedding dress, which she fell for at Bridal Boutique Lewisville.

After exchanging vows, these two really threw down—they and their guests kept dancing until 4:00 am!

From Emily:

How did your sweetie propose?

“I think the best part about Caton proposing was that it was truly a huge surprise! I had absolutely no idea and we had actually never talked about getting married or rings I liked. It was just a normal Saturday in Dallas, and we were headed to dinner to meet friends when he stopped at this park that “looked cool.” He had been talking about going to a park a lot the past few weeks and we were early for dinner so I agreed to take a look with no suspicions whatsoever. We walked towards the lake and as I turned around to look back at him he was on one knee and asked me to marry him! I, of course, said yes and he had a photographer capture the whole thing. He then surprised me with a party at one of our favorite restaurants with all our family and friends. It truly was a magical day!”

How did you choose your gown?

“Choosing a gown was one of the harder parts of the whole wedding planning process for me. I went to five bridal stores and tried on over 50 dresses before finding my Lea-Ann Belter dress with Amy at Bridal Boutique Lewisville. By the time I made it to Bridal Boutique, I was beyond frustrated and discouraged because I had tried on so many dresses and none of them were “the one” and I really didn’t want to settle. Once I got to Bridal Boutique, Amy listened to what I wanted and we walked around the store and chose over 20 gowns for me to try on. After trying on the first dress and explaining what I didn’t like about it, she ran to the back and came back with the most perfect, simple, and beautiful gown and said, “What about this one?” I instantly fell in love with it and had to try it on next (even though I still had over 15 gowns to try on in my fitting room). The second I tried it on I knew it was the one and I never tried on another gown after it. I finally had that feeling that everyone talked about when finding their gown—what can you say when you know, you know!”

What’s your funniest wedding day memory?

“I would say the funniest memory at our wedding was when my hubby Caton slipped and fell on his bum on our dancefloor as we were making our big entrance (sorry Caton). Backstory—it down poured ALL day and we had an outdoor reception, so even though it stopped raining by the time our reception started, it was still very wet and slippery (especially on the dance floor).”

What was your favorite wedding day moment?

“My favorite wedding day moment would have to be at the end of our reception (at 4:00 am!) once all the guests left and the DJ played one final song for us to dance to all by ourselves. It was a beautiful Spanish song called Rigas and dancing to it with Caton was a great end to the best day of our lives!”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We did a mini-moon in Cancun before heading to our wedding in Merida, Mexico and then after our wedding, we spent a week in St. Lucia at the most amazing hotel, Viceroy, Sugar Beach. It was absolutely gorgeous and we had a great week of relaxation, amazing views, good drinks and food, and a fabulous suite.”
