Intimate Halloween Wedding (with Costumes!) | Samantha + Matt

A Halloween wedding that goes all in? Yes, please! Sam and Matt grew up in Guelph, and while they traveled in the same circles, they never met until they hit 26. And then it was on like Donkey Kong! Sam, a woman who loves Halloween and knows her mind, was the one to pop the question. “We were sitting on the couch, and I said “Hey, Halloween is on a Saturday next year, you want to get married?!” He said, “Yeah!”… I think he thought I was joking at first!”

Then, of course, the pandemic hit. But a Saturday Halloween doesn’t come around every year, and so the two reduced their guest list, added a Zoom for those that couldn’t attend, moved the ceremony outside, and exchanged vows in spooky, romantic style!

Tell us about your day!

“Our wedding theme was Halloween, it is my favorite holiday. We had to reduce our guest list to 50 people due to the pandemic, but did a Zoom meeting for everyone that we couldn’t attend. The ceremony was outside, it was a chilly day but we could have our masks off. Once inside for the reception, everyone wore masks, unless seated at our socially distanced tables. After dinner we put on our costumes and partied on!”

What was your first dance song?

“ “Angel” by Aerosmith. It is always our drunken kitchen dance song.”

Five words to describe our wedding day:

“Blue moon, Halloween, love, and finally married.”

What was the funniest moment of your day?

“We had finished our vows and it was time to sign the papers, but Matt couldn’t wait to have our first kiss, the pastor had to walk back over and do the first kiss part, and then we signed the papers.”

Do you have any advice for future brides and grooms?

“Live in the moment, the wedding day is important but it is busy and flies by. Don’t sweat the small stuff, life is too short.”
