We’re having a hard time tearing our eyes away from Wallis and Josh’s romantic wedding day at The Standard in Knoxville. And to think it all started with the dress! Well, not their sweet story. These two are high school sweethearts whose love for one another bloomed into a beautiful proposal at The Biltmore in Asheville, NC.
After all of that is where The Dress comes in. You see, Wallis had lots of ideas swirling around in her head, but nothing seemed to come together until she went to Wedding Wonderland. This is where she met her Odette wedding dress. Once that was taken care of, explained Wallis, “I had our entire wedding planned around it within a week!”
Get the scoop on her swoony engagement weekend and those hilarious bridal-party-as-sexy-panthers shots (you’ll know them when you see them) below.
How did Josh propose?
“Josh and I have been together since high school, and we have known for years that we were going to get married. However, there were so many times I thought he was going to propose and didn’t. Finally, I just stopped expecting it, and that is of course when it happened. We went to the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, NC for a getaway weekend. We went on a walk down to a waterfall before a storm came rolling in. We were just talking, but when we got up to go back to the house, he turned around and took my hands. I was so surprised that I talked through the entire thing making sure it was real, which it was. I still have no clue what he said, but it was one of the best moments of my life!”
How did you choose your gown?
“I went to one store before going to Wedding Wonderland. I tried on probably 15 dresses at the first store before thinking that I was just too picky and wouldn’t fall in love with a dress. I went to Wedding Wonderland without a lot of expectations to fall head over heels in love with a dress, which of course is what happened. I immediately saw this dress and when I tried it on, I just knew. It was everything I pictured and more.”
Tell us about your day! Did you have a theme or style in mind?
“I will be honest, I had about 50 different themes and ideas in my head and didn’t know which direction to go. Once we picked the venue, we knew we wanted to go different with an industrial vibe with cinder blocks and concrete. It wasn’t until I finally found my dress that we picked colors. After that, everything fell into place!”
What’s your funniest wedding day memory?
“Our photographer did this thing with the bridal party where everyone walked towards her, and she would call out an animal. Whatever she called out, you had to act out. It all started out easy with a shark, but the second thing she called out was a sex panther. Half of us thought she said a six panther, and we all ended up laughing for 20 minutes, but the pictures were amazing!”
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
“Don’t stress too much!!! I really tried to take time to enjoy the process and didn’t pressure myself (or my husband) to make decisions in a rush. I especially wanted to wait until I found my dress before figuring out even our colors. I always thought I wanted grey, but it turned out that grey didn’t look great next to my dress. However, as soon as I knew Odette was my dress, I had almost all of the colors and decorations in my head within a few days.
Also, try and take time to just enjoy the day. It truly does go by in the blink of an eye.”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Belize! We ended up staying at an amazing jungle lodge for 3 nights and a really cool cabana on the beach for 4 days. It was a perfect mix because we got to relax some but still be adventurous and explore new places.”
