Wedding at Steam Whistle Brewery | Christina + Luke

When Christina and Luke met as McMaster University students, it wasn’t as total strangers. They share the same hometown and had overlapping circles of friends. While at McMaster, Luke was living with some of Christina’s high school friends…which is what got the ball rolling. On their first official date, they went to the Toronto Zoo and then to the Keg Steakhouse. Eight years later, they replicated that fun night out, but this time Christina was in for the surprise of her life—back at their condo, Luke proposed!

Thanks to their penchant for fun, these two chose Steam Whistle Brewery as the spot in which to celebrate…and celebrate they did! For her summer wedding, Christina floated down the aisle, around town, and at the brewery in Maxine, who stole her heart at our Toronto flagship bridal boutique.

More from Christina, who jetted off to Portugal with Luke after their wedding day and proceeded to travel from north to south in a convertible (travel goals!):

How did you choose your gown?

“The Maxine was the second dress at the second store I shopped at and I was immediately in love. I had both my grandmothers, my mother, and two of my favourite aunts with me, so it was super special to have family there at the time I picked my gown. It was very “me” as all my family and friends have said—simple, light, but also has some beautiful detail. I think my gown was literally one of my favourite parts of the day—I was so comfortable but also felt so special in it.”

What was your first dance song?

“Our two friends sang a Taylor Swift song called “mine”—one sang and one played acoustic guitar—it was really nice to have friends sing one of our favourite songs! Yes, I have dragged Luke to many Taylor Swift concerts—ha!”

What was the funniest moment of your day?

“I think when Luke and I were doing our couple photos in between the ceremony and reception, and the entire bridal party was in the limo with our parents, we pictured them to be calm, waiting patiently for us to be done, but when we got back from taking photos, there was a full on dance party going on in the limo. It’s safe to say they had consumed lots of alcohol while we were gone—it was surprising to see how much fun they were having, they were a riot!”

Three words that best describe your partner:

“Luke is patient, very loving, and super fun/adventurous!”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

“We went to Portugal! It was the best time—we rented a convertible and travelled from the south (Lisbon and Lagos) to the North (Porto).”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“While the day DOES fly by so fast, it is so worth all the planning! It is so surreal to have all your loved ones in one room to celebrate love—there’s nothing better! Also, for the brides, having a LIGHT gown like the Maxine was sooo nice for a summer wedding, I was not hot at all!”
