Summer Camp Wedding Celebration | Miriam + Chris

Back in 2020 (doesn’t that feel like ages ago?!), every engaged couple recalibrated their plans. Some postponed altogether, while others chose to go the small-but-safe route with the intention of hosting a larger celebration later. Miriam and Chris went with option number two, which, among other joys, meant another chance for Miriam to wear her Lyra wedding gown and Chris his terrific suit!

Last year, they tied the knot with a super-special Toronto micro wedding at the Broadview Hotel (see it here). When restrictions eased and large gatherings were a thing again, Miriam and Chris knew they wanted to host a Part II where their story started—at Camp Wenonah.

Says Miriam, “Chris and I met as staff members at Camp Wenonah, so it really is the place that brought us together. After being friends for a few years, we had our first kiss at Camp, and so much of our community is made up of our friends from Camp. This place was truly our second home during our teenage years, so it immediately made sense for us to have it there. We also knew that if we did something outside of the city, we wanted to make it easy for people to spend the night and make it a bit of an extended visit, so Camp was just the perfect spot.”

As they’d already legally tied the knot, planning a second wedding gave Miriam and Chris a chance to change things up a bit. Get the details on how they put together their summer camp wedding celebration from Miriam below:

What was the most important aspect for you in terms of planning?

“It was really fun to create our own wedding ceremony with friends to officiate this time around, as all the legal stuff was out of the way. We wanted it to be interactive and represent us, and it wound up being one of my favourite parts of the weekend.

We also really wanted everyone to have the chance to enjoy Camp, especially our friends and family who were there for the first time! We got to have our ceremony, dinner, and dancing all in different spots around Camp, so guests got to move around and get a sense of this place that means so much to us.”

Share a bit about the style and vibe you wanted to create!

“Pretty casual, rustic, and fun. We didn’t do too much in terms of decorations since we wanted the natural beauty of Camp Wenonah to shine through! We loved having the Traveling Tow Bar there to help with serving drinks and it really added a fun retro vibe to the space.”

How did it feel to celebrate with everyone and wear your gown again?

“It felt amazing! We are truly so grateful we were able to have the celebration we dreamed of. Wearing my dress again was such a great bonus. When I bought it, I pictured myself walking through the forest at Camp, so I’m so glad that became a reality!! I felt so comfortable and beautiful in it.”
