Super Romantic Haiku Mill Wedding | Lan + David

Shooting stars, globetrotting and a proposal on a volcano at sunrise are all parts of Lan and David’s sweet story. Woven into the fabric of their Haiku Mill wedding day, those experiences bring a special, fairy dust glitter to everything from the Chinese Tea Ceremony (which you can see more of at Bridal Musings) to their reception.

Though planned from afar, Lan had a hand in every aspect of her and David’s enchanting celebration. Our talented bride chose every single flower and procured vintage stamps for the invitations, as well as designed the wedding website (which included an RSVP form which automatically populated a spreadsheet) and reserved signs for the ceremony and shave ice menu. Girlfriend also dabbles in calligraphy, so she hand-lettered all the dessert labels.

How it all began:

“Lan and David met in August 2013 at a work social event while both working at Apple. Their first date was dinner in Cupertino on a Friday night, followed by a night drive up on the hills of Woodside overlooking the peninsula of the Bay Area. It was a magical evening ending with shooting stars lighting up the sky.

It became apparent quickly they both had a burning desire to see the world. Three weeks later, David surprised Lan with plane tickets to Vancouver, British Columbia, and one month after that they were hopping on a plane to attend a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico.

By Thanksgiving, they found themselves exploring the streets of Paris, Rome, and Prague. Since then, they’ve taken trips all across the world!”

Out of all the places they’ve been, these two chose Hawaii as the place they’d wed because it held a special place in their hearts – David proposed to Lan atop Haleakala after watching the sunrise. Plus, Lan adores it for the warm water, delicious local food, beaches and waterfalls.

On Finding The Dress

From Lan:

“I purchased my gown at a small boutique called Lovely in San Francisco. The designer is Lea-Ann Belter from Toronto (I’m Canadian so that was a bonus!). I decided to order the dress in blush, and it’s made of silk organza material with one layer of the dress full of sequins! I loved the lace detail on sweetheart neckline sewn with white and clear beads, the sparkly layer of the skirt, and most of all how light it was!”

One of their Favorite Wedding Day Moments

“We had guests hold sparklers surrounding us for the first dance. It was perfect as the sun had just set, and the light from the sparklers bounced off the crystals and chandeliers that hung from the ceiling. The Mill looked absolutely magical.”
