Wedding at the Carolina Inn | Quinn + Jordan

Set up by a few of her sorority sisters for a formal during their junior year of college at UNC Chapel Hill, Quinn and Jordan’s chemistry was instant. As in, two weeks after clapping eyes on Jordan, Quinn introduced him to her parents! Despite that on-the-spot connection, the two dated for four years, three of which were long distance thanks to law school.

Quinn and Jordan’s Christmastime proposal story is romantic with a capital R—Quinn shares all the details a bit further down—but know it involved poetry, The Nutcracker, and a bended knee in the middle of a beautiful park. Like we said, SUPER romantic! So, it should come as no surprise their wedding at the Carolina Inn was, too. These two incorporated all kinds of meaning throughout their classic wedding day, from the pimento cheese dip to table numbers to a surprise appearance by Rameses, UNC’s mascot.

Get the scoop from our lovely bride and her sweet groom, who just glowed in our Astrid & Mercedes Cherish gown and flew off to France with her sweetie for an incredible honeymoon:

How did your honey propose?

“In late December 2017, Jordan took me on the best date of my life! First, we went to 300 East in Charlotte, where we split a bottle of wine. I was feeling romantic, so I pulled out my favorite poem that has always reminded me of Jordan: “Typewriter Series #1” by Tyler Knott Gregson. Then Jordan surprised me with tickets to The Nutcracker (one of my favorite shows and holiday traditions) at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Afterwards, he told me he wanted to take me to the Christmas Village at Romare Bearden park. We walked over to the park but it was empty, so Jordan led me to the center of the park, where the Charlotte skyline lit up the background, and dropped to one knee! He then recited “Typewriter Series #1” from heart; little did I know, he had memorized it! After the proposal, we walked over to a local bar, and when they turned the corner both of their families were waiting to congratulate us! It was a magical, wonderful evening.”

How did you choose your gown?

“I chose my gown because of its classic, timeless, and elegant look. I love its crisp and simple silhouette. I also love how it has a sheer lace button back; it’s so subtly feminine!

We chose my gown one Saturday in June. My mom, sister, and a few bridesmaids all came into Charlotte. We started off the day with mimosas at Tupelo Honey. Then we went to several bridal salons. When I tried on the Lea-Ann Belter dress that afternoon, everyone just gasped and my mom teared up. We knew it was the one right away. After that we celebrated by attending an engagement party that my future in-laws threw for us. It was the perfect day!”

What was your wedding day inspiration?

“We wanted the wedding to be elegant, timeless, and classic. We love traveling through the South, and especially the low country, and wanted to bring in the natural color of green—the kind of green that you see in trees and flowers. We also wanted to incorporate the colors from the Old Well Ballroom at the Carolina Inn. So our colors were cream, taupe and gold, with hints of dark green. We also incorporated a lot of special elements that reflected our personalities. For example, one of the appetizers was pimento cheese dip in honor of our southern roots, and our welcome bags also had North Carolina peanuts and Chapel Hill toffee. We both went to UNC and my mom surprised us by having Rameses show up and dance the night away with us! Our cake was a perfect blend of our personalities—we had classic vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream icing (Jordan’s pick) and a more bold chocolate cake with espresso cream icing (Quinn’s pick). And our favorite element was how we incorporated Quinn’s love for flowers and nature with Jordan’s passion for golf (and particularly his love for the Masters). Our table names were each a hole from the Augusta course (which are all flowers) with a print of the flower actually from the Augusta National gift shop in beautiful gold frames. We actually have all of the framed table names hanging in our living room now!”

What was one of your most cherished moments of the day?

“Having my 94-year-old grandfather, who is a retired Episcopal priest, pronounce us husband and wife. Ever since I was a little girl I have hoped he would be able to be a part of my wedding day, and it was truly a dream come true.”

Three words that best describe your partner :

“Jordan is patient, generous, and loyal. Quinn is determined, creative, and passionate.“
