Windswept Wedding at Waterton Lakes | Michelangela + Nick

Sometimes, when it rains, it pours, so why not dance in it with your partner and best friend? That’s how Michelangela and Nick reacted to the series of events thrown their way. Initially, they’d planned to get married at The Dean House in Calgary, but then canceled due to the onset of the pandemic. Next, they planned a small outdoor wedding with family in Waterton Lakes National Park, then pandemic restrictions evolved and that plan was postponed. Finally, they set a firm June date and moved forward with an intimate ceremony and picnic reception.

On the day of, the sun was shining, the planets were aligning, and Michelangela and Nick were getting ready. Outside, storm clouds were rolling in…because, of course. With laughter, smiles, and a whole lot of wind, these two finally forged ahead and tied the knot in a wildly beautiful, joyful, windswept ceremony before their small family group. Then it was off to the picnic, which promptly got rained out. Retreating to their car, Michelangela and Nick took a rain check on their portraits in favor of celebrating together someplace warm and dry.

But, oh, what a day they had! Yes, the gorgeous natural backdrop and how wonderfully Michelangela’s Astrid & Mercedes gown played in the wind were stunning. But the way Michelangela and Nick embraced every hiccup with good humor was a beautiful thing, as was their portrait session later in Banff National Park, which we’ll share here next week!
