Heart. That’s what Kylie and Lenny’s wedding at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort has got. It also has gorgeous, wintry style and a venue whose natural beauty is insane. But, as you’ll see, what brings their celebration to life is the zest, humor, and love these two share.
Our sensational bride was drawn to her Lovely gown at first because of the pockets, but then she slipped it on and felt all the I’m-getting-married feels. Kylie then proceeded to make her look wedding-day ready with a stellar, retro-inspired blusher, blue boots, and an engraved bracelet her mom wore as a flower girl over 50 years ago.
How did your sweetie propose?
“We took two of his family’s horses down to Wainui Beach (Gisborne, New Zealand) for a ride— he got off his horse and started with, “Well, I guess this is as good a spot as any…” I thought he was going to hand me his reins and find a place to pee…”
How did you choose your gown?
“My mum picked it, she knew I wanted a gown with pockets—I wasn’t going to try it, even though I loved it on the hanger, because it was more than I had budgeted. I put it on and immediately cried in the very best way! My mum bought it for me on the spot!”
Tell us about your day! Did you have a theme or style in mind?
“Our day was perfect! We got married at the absolutely stunning Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet, BC, just before Christmas. I wanted the wedding to have the warmth of the season, without being over the top Christmas, while staying true to the spectacular beauty that is the West Coast.”
What’s your funniest wedding day memory?
“Probably walking back into the ballroom with my plate overloaded with food and just about tripping over two of my friends leg-wrestling in the middle of the dance floor for the privilege of eating next!”
What was your favorite wedding day moment?
“There are too many: every bride probably says it, but our day really was spectacular! One stand-out moment was my mum organizing a dance for me with five men who have had an amazing and positive influence in my life as I’ve grown-up, in lieu of the traditional Father-Daughter Dance. I think just about everyone cried through it; myself included!”
Describe your wedding day in 5 words or less:
“BEST DAY EVER!!”
What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
“My something old was also my something borrowed; an engraved silver bracelet given to my mum when she was a flower girl in a wedding over fifty years ago! Just about everything I wore was new, but I guess I would say my necklace and earrings were what I thought of as “something new.” And my absolutely fabulous boots were blue!”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We didn’t. We travel all the time, so we just stayed put at the resort for a few extra days and enjoyed each other!”
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
“Laugh. I laughed so much and had an absolutely fun and special day! I wasn’t stressed and neither was anyone else, the whole day just flowed and everyone seemed to have a great time! I wanted the day to be fun, and it 110% was!”
