“Elegant, intimate, fun, joyous and perfect!”
That’s how Julie described her winter wedding, and it all began with a charming knock-knock joke (more of that sweet proposal to come).
Julie and Jim created a wintry, holiday feel for their intimate wedding at the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis with candlelight, greenery, and a big ol’ helping of happiness. Because what’s more holiday than love and cheer? Dressed in her Candice gown, Mackenzie bolero, a white fur jacket and a glittering veil from Town and Country Bridal, Julie sparkled like the season.
Our fabulous bride shared the details of their special winter event below:
How did your sweetie propose?
“We were in Gulf Shores, Alabama and he tried numerous times but I kept messing up the plans – he had planned to do it at dinner at an intimate table for two at a nice restaurant – I didn’t know he had this planned so I walked up to the hostess and she sat us at a six top which didn’t make for such an intimate feeling. Then, at dinner there was a dock and he wanted me to walk out there and I said, “No – my heels might get stuck”. Back at the condo, he wanted to go on a walk on the beach and I said – no it was dark and might be dangerous. Finally, we were having wine on our balcony he asked me a knock-knock joke, which was “knock, knock – who’s there – Mary – Mary who? – Marry me?!” It was sweet!”
How did you choose your gown?
“Shout out to Town and Country Bridal in Ladue, MO – gorgeous gowns! I had tried on quite a few (maybe 10 or more) and brought a friend with me and she said try on something you don’t picture yourself in. I tried on Mathia and immediately knew it was the one!”
Tell us a little about your day!
“It was a small wedding right after Christmas on the 30th so we wanted the winter/Christmas atmosphere. The ceremony and reception were at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Louis, and it was strictly family and those standing up. We wanted an intimate feel for the ceremony, so we had lanterns going down the aisle with greenery on top, and the lights were dimmed. It was so nice and cozy.”
What’s your funniest wedding day memory?
“Probably me smoking a cigar in my dress at the cigar bar in the hotel – wasn’t the classiest of looks!”
Three words that best describe Jim:
“Sweet, funny and thoughtful.”
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
“Don’t rush into a wedding!”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
