Kristina and Myles met at a St. Patrick’s Day rooftop party. Seven years later, they eloped to Scotland and tied the knot—literally! They had a traditional Scottish handfasting and Quaiche ceremony beside Dunsapie Loch in Edinburgh.
As if that weren’t wildly romantic enough, here is what Myles said made him realize that Kristina was his person: “There wasn’t just one moment that made me think that this was it for me, it’s everything she does. All the little things, they add up.” Beautiful, simple, and so, so butterfly-inducing!
Our lovely, happy bride shares more about their small elopement in Scotland, the funny story of how she found her Joy gown, and about her Scottish honeymoon (complete with whisky tour!) below:
How did you choose your gown?
“This is a funny story, I actually initially saw the dress when I was with a friend for her final fitting. It was on display on the mannequin and in the background of the photos I quickly snapped of my girlfriend. After heading to the Broadview Hotel to have a celebratory cocktail, we both kept talking about the dress we saw and how it was such a perfect dress for me. I tried on many dresses in Toronto but nothing measured up and when I finally came back to Lea-Ann Belter we all knew that this was the dress for me. “

Tell us about your day!
“After attempting to plan a wedding in Toronto and getting quotes completely out of our price range, we decided to combine our honeymoon and wedding and have a small elopement in Scotland. Our ceremony was located outside by a beautiful lake known as Dunsapie Loch, part way up Arthur’s Seat, which is an extinct volcano and popular hiking spot in the middle of Edinburgh. Our celebrant, Kathryn, did an excellent job of incorporating personal elements into our ceremony in a way that really celebrated our love story and the journey our relationship has taken over the last 7 years and really emphasized the adventure that still lies ahead. We were able to incorporate a traditional Scottish handfasting and Quaiche ceremony, which was really special to both of us.”
Describe your wedding day in 5 words or fewer:
“Intimate, fun, magical, adventurous, whisky.”
What was the funniest moment of your day?
“Part of the Quaiche ceremony involves sharing a cup of whiskey together. After the ceremony during our couples shoot, we had a few more sips of the whisky to calm our nerves and I forgot to screw the lid back on when I handed it back to my husband. He proceeded to put the flask in his back pocket, which eventually leaked all over his suit (luckily it was dark green). We spent the rest of the day joking about his whisky butt.”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We got married in Scotland so really the wedding was part of the honeymoon. We spent 6 days in Edinburgh overlapped with friends and family and then went on to do an Islay whisky tour and up to explore the beautiful Scottish Highlands.”
