Riding in a boat to your wedding with your best girlfriends should definitely be a thing, because that’s what our lovely bride Kim did on her way to meet her sweet groom, Aaron, at the altar.
Which, in their case was the Big Fiddle. The Big Fiddle is a 60-foot-high sculpture on the Sydney, NS waterfront with special significance for Aaron and Kim—it’s where they had their first date!
Taking a boat to meet Aaron was also extra special—she is the skipper of her own boat and has an all-girl crew. To celebrate that and their history on the Sydney waterfront, her and Aaron’s whole celebration had a nautical theme, which included tying the literal knot during their ceremony. Also, we have to mention, they also had a breaking of the bread ceremony (similar to Dani + Valentin’s!) which, just like Dani, Kim won, too! Clearly, Lea-Ann Belter brides are take-charge ladies!
From Kim, who wore a custom gown from our flagship Toronto bridal boutique:
How did you guys meet?
“We met at a friend’s house, totally cliche, and our first date was ice cream at the Big Fiddle, where we got married!!!”

How did you know Aaron was the “one”?
“Because he said ‘I love you’ first after a few short months and I could not say it back fast enough. My heart was bursting, it felt so full!”
How did your sweetie propose?
“At the waterfront in Sydney, after dinner, it was raining, he opened the car door for me and before I could get in the car the ring was in hand.”
How did you choose your gown?
“With the help of Vanessa at the flagship store in Toronto! Vanessa was amazing and the fabric and style was beyond what I was able to imagine anywhere else.”
Tell us about your day!
“Our day was perfect! It was sunny with a few clouds, not too hot, not too cold! I am a sailor and skipper my own boat, we have an all girl crew! I was brought in via sailboat. We wanted our theme to be more of an elegant dinner as opposed to a big wedding theme. It was perfect. We had a Greek tradition, the breaking of the bread, between the bride and groom, whoever gets the bigger half is the boss family. We also had a tying of the knot ceremony, literally.”
What was your first dance song?
“Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.”
Describe your wedding day in 5 words or fewer:
“A romantic gesture celebrating our love!”
What was the funniest moment of your day?
“When my veil almost blew off during the ceremony.”
What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
“A family diamond I had made into a necklace charm (old), dress (new), headpiece (borrowed), shoes (blue).”
Three words that best describe your partner (you or both of you can answer!):
“Loving, loyal and inspiring!”
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“Europe 2020”
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
“Take a few minutes throughout your day to remind yourselves why you are there. It is easy to get lost in the day focus on everyone else!”
