Fit & Flare Wedding Gowns
Figure-skimming, graceful, and always in style—fit and flare wedding dresses are made to flatter. They can be strapless, V-neck, halter, or any neckline you fancy, and cut from textiles of all kinds. There are Basque waist fit and flares, and those with natural waists (and everything in between). Some flared skirts are more pronounced than others, but what brings them all together is a distinctively curvy shape.
We’ve gathered our couture Lea-Ann Belter gowns and the modern wedding dresses of our Astrid & Mercedes diffusion line, each interpreting the captivating fit and flare silhouette in its own way.
What is a Fit and Flare Wedding Dress?
A fit and flare is a popular one among our brides! This classic wedding dress style is defined by a silhouette that’s fitted through the bodice and hips, then gradually flares out starting around mid-thigh.
Here’s what makes it special:
- The fit: The dress hugs your body through the bust, waist, and hips, showing off your curves, and then opens into a lovely skirt and train.
- The flare: Rather than flaring dramatically at the waist (like a ball gown or A-line wedding dress) or staying fitted all the way down as a column gown would, the skirt begins to widen gently partway, kind of. like a trumpet. This creates a softer silhouette than a mermaid gown, which flares right at or below the knee.
- Why it’s beloved: It’s incredibly versatile and flattering. The fitted top accentuates the waist, while the flare adds movement and elegance. This classic silhouette works well for all sorts of weddings, from formal ballroom affairs to intimate dockside fetes.
