After trying on many wedding dresses, Alex had narrowed down her choices to one gown. But, just in case, she kept her appointment with Vanessa at our flagship Toronto bridal boutique.
“I decided I should explore all my options—sometimes you never know! I’m so happy I did. Vanessa was one of the best consultants I met with, and I knew immediately her knowledge ran deep in every aspect of the dress. She worked with me to really understand what I liked (and didn’t) and was great at keeping me grounded (it can be overwhelming once you’ve tried on so many) through the decision-making process.”

The custom gown Alex chose was perfect—for her and her classic wedding. Set at Islington Golf Club, Alex and Jared’s day was filled with personal details. Alex’s dad wore a bowtie made from the fabric of her gown, and she and Jared made sure to include traditions important to both their families.
“I’m Ukrainian, so there’s a tradition where you present/serve the bride and groom with a wedding bread called the Korovai. It’s beautifully and intricately decorated with flowers and birds to represent good health and prosperity.
Jared’s family is also from Newfoundland, so we also got Screeched in. It’s a ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a “come from away” or “mainlander”) involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod.
Both were unique heritage traditions that meant a lot to us, and because family is important to us, really demonstrated both of ours coming together.”

How did you two get engaged?
“Jared and I got engaged last year while we were skiing at Blue Mountain. After we stopped for a break and took off our skis, he told me he wanted to check something out, and by the time I caught up with him, he was down on one knee by this beautiful, secluded stream. We then celebrated afterwards at a Montana’s (ha!). We asked them for their best bottle of bubbly and they simply replied, “Ma’am this is a Montana’s.”
What is your favorite thing about each other?
“We make each other laugh and know when to make light of certain situations. We are each other’s rocks and source of strength.”
What was the funniest moment of your day?
“When we did our first look, the first thing Jared said to me when he saw me all dressed up was, “You have lipstick all over your teeth.” lol. The next thing he said was how beautiful I looked.”
Any tips for couples getting married?
“Explore all the options. You never know where the perfect thing may be! Also, the grind of all the wedding planning is worth it, it’ll be a day you hold close and treasure always.”
