Fall Wedding at the Appel Inn | Antonia + Andrew

You know what we love most about weddings? Yes, the bridal gowns and love are top tier, but what we really love are the stories.

For instance, when we asked Antonia for the funniest moment on her and Andrew’s wedding day, she had this to say, “Quite possibly my husband’s face when I decided to chop my hair off mid-reception. I cut off at least 10 inches.”

Girl. That’s some live-in-the-moment-and-laugh-about shenanigans (the picture of the mid-wedding haircut is below)! Humor, it turns out, is a big part of what these two enjoy about life and each other. In fact, it’s part of how Antonia knew Andrew was her person. “I knew a few months in that Andrew was the one. There are so few people you meet in this world where all of your views on life match up, but your personalities are different enough to keep every day fun. My husband is one of those people that when you are around him you can’t help but smile and laugh, even on your worst day.”

These two planned a New York wedding that incorporated Andrew’s Jewish heritage and their love of having a good time. One of the reasons they chose their venue? It was the perfect place to have a great party. “We wanted a venue that felt cozy, and not as much of a “production.” The Appel Inn in Altamont gave us just that. It was a perfect blend of nature with gorgeous fall foliage, a fireplace inside, a fire outside, and a great dance floor.”Read on for more about their day—including how Antonia found her Dinah gown—from our sweet bride below.

How did the two of you meet?

“We met on Hinge! However, I always joke that I only went on a date with him because he was a lawyer and I was a first year in law school and I really needed someone to review this paper I was writing for class.”

How did you two get engaged?

“We got engaged on a beach at sunrise in Punta Cana. It was a beautiful private moment since no one else was up that early and Andrew said to me, “The sun has popped so I must pop the question.” Corny but cute.”

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

“Andrew has a strong Jewish background and so our favorite parts of the day were the Hora and smashing the glass after saying “I do.” Our guests also loved the Hora, I had friends who were not Jewish telling me they are definitely doing this at their wedding.”

Tell us about your outfits! How did you choose your gown?

“I bought my gown from Something Bleu Bridal in Saratoga, although I didn’t purchase it that day because I loved three of them. However, when I got home and looked at the pictures my maid of honor took while I was trying on gowns, the one I was smiling the biggest in was Dinah, and I knew I had to have her. I went back days later to purchase.”

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

“We wanted a venue that felt cozy, and not as much of a “production.” The Appel Inn in Altamont gave us just that. It was a perfect blend of nature with gorgeous fall foliage, a fireplace inside, a fire outside, and a great dance floor.”

What part of your wedding day was most important to you?

“The most important part of the day to us will always be the vows. We both cried and poured our hearts out. We had a lot of guests complement our vows at the ceremony and said how heartfelt and meaningful they were and that is exactly how we wanted the day to feel.”

What are your honeymoon plans?

“We are leaving this week for Italy and Croatia for a full 14 days and we cannot wait.”
