Melody Gown in a Four Seasons Toronto Wedding | Emma + Jamie

Though they were in the same program and shared many friends at Queen’s University, Emma and Jamie didn’t officially date at school. But everything changed after graduation when they both found themselves in New York City for the summer. One date turned into several, and four months later, Jamie took Emma to meet his family in Comox, BC. “During that same trip, Jamie told me he loved me. In that moment, I felt so certain that we were going to spend our lives together.”

The Perfect Morning, the Perfect Question

Their story began its next chapter like its first—in NYC. They were on their way to a favorite breakfast spot in Manhattan, a stroll which took them toward the water, “Jamie stopped and asked if he could “ask me something.” He got down on one knee and proposed. Because it was so early in the morning, it felt incredibly peaceful, private, and beautiful.”

A Dress That Meets the Moment

An elegant wedding planned at Yorkville’s Four Seasons, Emma set off in search of just the right dress. During her appointment at our Toronto bridal shop, Emma fell for Melody, a timeless ball gown silhouette with dramatic long tails. “Vanessa was incredibly professional and helped me choose and customize the initial design, guiding me through every step of the process.”

By changing Melody’s sweetheart neckline to a straight across, and adding a cuff, and a cathedral veil by local designer Laura Jayne Bride, Emma’s classic wedding dress became her own. “The entire team made sure every detail of the dress was perfectly tailored for me. I couldn’t recommend Lea-Ann Belter more—they made me feel like a princess.”

How did the two of you meet?

When did you realize Jamie was your person?

I realized Jamie was my person when I first visited his hometown of Comox, BC and met his family. It was about four months into our relationship, and during that same trip Jamie told me he loved me. In that moment, I felt so certain that we were going to spend our lives together.

Could you share your engagement story?

It was the week before Thanksgiving, and we were about to head to Toronto to celebrate with my family. The weekend before, while we were in NYC, Jamie asked if I wanted to get breakfast at 8 a.m. at our favorite Saturday morning spot—something we did all the time—so I didn’t suspect anything.

After breakfast, we went for a walk toward the water along the West Side Highway in Manhattan. As we were walking down a quiet side street on the way there, Jamie stopped and asked if he could “ask me something.” He got down on one knee and proposed. Because it was so early in the morning, it felt incredibly peaceful, private, and beautiful. The following weekend we got to celebrate with all our friends and family in Toronto, which made it even more special.

Tell us about finding your gown! What made you choose Lea-Ann Belter, and what made you realize your dress was perfect?

Lea-Ann Belter made the experience of finding my gown feel truly magical. Vanessa was incredibly professional and helped me choose and customize the initial design, guiding me through every step of the process. The entire team made sure every detail of the dress was perfectly tailored for me. I couldn’t recommend Lea-Ann Belter more—they made me feel like a princess.

How did you personalize your day?

Jamie and I shared a private first dance before the reception began. It gave us a quiet moment together—just the two of us—to take everything in and soak up the feeling of being newly married.
