Modern Romance at the Harding Waterfront Estate | Kaya + Ryan

How’s this for meant to be? Kaya told us that she and Ryan “met in a psychology of relationships class back in university. It was love at first sight!”

That’s not the only thing fairy-tale about their story (just wait until you read about how Ryan proposed—he wrote a poem and asked for her hand at sunset in Spain!). Kaya’s wedding gown stepped straight out of her dreams, too. She’d been envisioning her perfect gown for years, and when the time came to find it, she visited us at our Toronto bridal boutique where she worked with us to create her custom gown.

After dancing to Van Morrison’s perfect, romantic “Into the Mystic” and celebrating all night, these two jetted off for a South of France honeymoon, visiting Marseille, St. Tropez, Les Issambres, Nice, Eze, Monaco, and Paris.

How did your sweetie propose?

“Ryan proposed to me while we were on vacation in San Sebastian, in the Basque region of Spain. It was sunset, and our apartment overlooked the purply-pink sky that seemed to melt into the sea. He knocked on the bedroom door, where I had just finished getting dressed and ready for our dinner plans. But when I opened it, he had a single flower held out, and led me to the terrace where a bottle of champagne and two glasses awaited us. As I turned to him, his face gave it all away—that unforgettable excited and nervous smile. As he began to recite a poem he had written for me, I began to cry very happy tears. After getting on one knee, he said, “There’s only one thing I would change in my life. Kaya, will you be my wife?” Needless to say, a million yes’s ensued!”

How did you choose your gown?

“Since I was really young, I have been fantasizing about my dream wedding gown. When it came time to choose, I had something very specific in mind—a light, airy ballgown with a full skirt made of tulle, and a lace sweetheart bodice with dainty off-the-shoulder sleeves. After arriving at Lea-Ann Belter for the first time, I fell in love with the materials and the designs. And when I was told that we could custom-create the gown of my dreams, I was sold! I technically said “yes to the dress” before actually having seen the finished product. Customizing the dress of my dreams was a once in a lifetime experience, and I can honestly say that it was one of the most memorable and joy-filled aspects of planning the wedding.”

Describe your wedding day in 5 words or fewer:

“Dreamy, memorable, romantic, laughter, and joyful.”

What was the funniest moment of your day?

“My bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, and I all had a big dance party in my bridal suite before walking down the aisle. It definitely helped with the pre-wedding jitters!”

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?

“Something new: my wedding dress and shoes
Something borrowed: we borrowed our cake knife
Something blue: my garter”

Three words that best describe your partner:

“Kind, romantic, and funny.”

Any advice for future brides/grooms?

“Soak it all in; the day goes by faster than you can imagine!”
